Amazon Canada

Exporting to

Canada, eh?

Don’t you wish exporting products for international fulfillment was as simple as stamping a passport? Unfortunately, it can feel more like a frantic battle against airport parking, baggage fees, strict security protocols, and in the end, something akin to getting stuck in the middle seat between two burly, sweaty passengers.

There’s no need to suffer;

follow us to freight, first class!

Shapiro vs. Courier Services

If your cargo is at least a pallet (2 CBM) or 200 kilograms, Shapiro provides freight services that are typically lower in cost than traditional courier services. FBA sellers shipping less than our minimum handling size will find it more cost-effective to ship via a courier service, such as FedEx, DHL, or UPS.

Importer of Record Status

Amazon will not act as the Importer of Record for FBA Canada shipments. To export to Canada, you will need a Non-Resident Importer number. This is very easy to set-up and only requires a credit application and a copy of your charter or articles of incorporation to submit to Canadian Customs.

Pallet and Labeling Requirements

Amazon has very strict pallet and labeling requirements. Your shipper (or manufacturer) is responsible for palletizing and labeling the cargo to the mandated specifications, and requirements change frequently. Visit the following resources for FBA receiving rules:

Fulfillment by Amazon Canada Shipping Requirements

Shipments that do not meet these requirements may be refused by Amazon Fulfillment Centers, returned to the seller at the seller’s expense, or assessed for non-compliance fees.  Rejections are solely at the discretion of Amazon.

Canadian Goods & Services Tax (GST) and

Harmonized Sales Tax (HST)

It is important that you understand how the sales tax works in Canada and how it will affect you as an FBA seller.

Most imported goods are subject to tax at a rate of 5%; if duty is applicable, the 5% tax is levied on the value of goods in addition to the duties. When you make a sale, the sale may be subject to GST or HST depending on the province. To learn more, please visit Amazon’s helpful literature on taxes for Amazon.ca or, the Canada Revenue Agency’s GST/HST page.
