Over the weekend, a deadly fire erupted at the BM Container Depot in southeastern Bangladesh, killing at least 49 people and injuring more than 300 others. The shipping container facility is in Sitakunda, near the port city of Chittagong.

The cause of the fire is still unknown; however, officials believe that the facility became engulfed in flames on Saturday after several containers filled with hydrogen peroxide and sulfur exploded.

Many containers have been destroyed and/or lost in the blaze, as firefighters struggled to extinguish the fire due to the highly flammable chemical contents and hazardous conditions involved.

At this time, the fire is now under control; and the port of Chittagong is still operating as normal.

Shapiro is closely monitoring the situation and will provide status updates as they become available.
