Groups like the Iran-backed Houthi movement continue to escalate attacks near the Suez Canal, recently firing two missiles at the USS Mason. This is rumored to have occurred after the USS Mason helped free a hijacked cargo ship in the Gulf of Aden.

Due to these attacks, several carriers have announced they are rerouting cargo away from the Suez Canal to ensure the safety of crews, vessels, and cargo. To date ZIM, Maersk, and NYK have announced route changes. ZIM, an Israeli carrier, is expected to see delays of 10 days. The impact to Maersk and NYK remains to be seen. We expect to see additional carriers continue to announce different routes or the temporary suspension of use of the canal.
