CBP announced an amendment to current tax rates per the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act of 2017 (CBMA).

Importers can now take advantage of the adjustment on shipments containing wines with more than 14%, but less than 16% alcohol by volume (ABV). This amendment reduces the excise tax from $1.57 per gallon, to $1.07 per gallon. It also applies to some effervescent wines and meads with low ABV.

CBP asks that any questions regarding refunds on shipments be directed to the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau.

Additional information can be found on the official CSMS message, which can be accessed HERE.

Shapiro will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
