U.S. Imposes Additional 40% Tariff on Brazilian Imports
- July 31, 2025
An executive order was signed on July 30th, outlining an additional 40% duty for Brazilian imports into the U.S.
A 40% ad valorem duty will apply to most goods imported from Brazil, effective 7 days after July 30, 2025, at 12:01 a.m. EDT. The tariff will apply in addition to existing duties, taxes, and section 232 duties where applicable.
The 40% duty is not applied to certain goods listed in Annex I, including civil aircraft and parts, fertilizers, precious metals, energy products, Brazilian orange juice, iron ore, mica, and certain plastics and machinery. Specific goods in transit before the cutoff date may also be exempt if entered before October 5, 2025. The phrase “in transit” has not yet been defined by officials.
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as federal agencies adjust or refine the scope.
