New ELD Mandate is Here

New regulations that require the use of electronic logging devices (ELDs) and revise hours of service (HOS) rules for motor carriers are now in effect and are being strictly enforced.

As a result, shippers may experience reduced free time and a greater likelihood of missed appointments/deliveries. With ELDs in place, trucking companies will face fines for breaking the law and falsifying HOS documents, so every hour of service becomes precious.

In response, many trucking companies have lowered the free time allowed for pick-ups and deliveries to 1 hour. Many truckers are already beginning to cite HOS as a reason for missed pick-up or delivery.

Shapiro will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they develop.
